What I Don’t Fold

Time is so valuable and, over the years, I’ve made some changes to what I’m willing to spend it on. One of the best time (and mood) savers for me is deciding what not to fold from our laundry. I have a friend who loves folding laundry- She enjoys the peacefulness of folding her shirts and fitting them nicely into her drawers. I detest it- So, I found ways to get out of it…

I realized I was spending valuable minutes of my week folding underwear. Underwear. Why? So now it gets thrown in a pile and straight into the drawer.

I saw a great video recently on Instagram where a family has a clean bin and dirty bin for towels. Instead of folding their towels, they simply go from the dryer and get dumped into the Clean Bin for the family to grab on their way to the shower (I’ll try to find the video to give her credit because she’s a genius)!

There is a wave of parents moving to no-fold systems for childrens’ clothing. Simply organize bins or sections in the drawers, sort/dump the laundry into each section and go.

If socks bother you, you can move to a one-sock system. Buy only one type of socks and avoid having to “match” moving forward. Just dump them in your drawer and move on! (If you want 2-3 different styles, just separate them by bins, dividers and it can still work)!

The main questions I ask:

  • Is this out in the open where it’s going to bother me visually? If so, could I hide it somehow? ( i.e., the family above utilizes beautiful baskets with lids on top so the unfolded towels can’t be seen)

  • It is going to matter if it’s wrinkled?
